Retranscription

Re-process a saved meeting's audio with a different transcription provider, model, or language.

Retranscription replaces the transcript

Export the current transcript before starting if you may need it later. Retranscription replaces the saved transcript and does not automatically regenerate the existing summary.

Retranscription

Retranscription processes a meeting's saved audio again with a different provider, model, or language. It is useful when the detected language was wrong, a different model better suits the recording, or you want to try a configured provider.

The meeting keeps its saved audio and is not duplicated. The saved transcript is replaced when the new transcription is saved.

Quick start

Open a meeting with saved audio and select the Transcript tab.

Select Retranscribe, then choose a configured provider, model, and language where that provider supports those choices.

Select Start Retranscription. The work starts or is queued as a job.

Follow the job in the Jobs tray. When it completes, select Open or return to the meeting to review the replacement transcript.

When a retranscription can run

Retranscription runs as a background job. You can submit more than one job, though jobs may be processed serially.

Cancellation depends on the stage

Cancelling before Meetily saves the replacement preserves the previous transcript. If replacement has already been saved and speaker identification has started, cancelling stops that speaker work but may leave the new transcript in place.

Choose a provider, model, and language

The retranscribe dialog lists the transcription providers you have configured. You can choose a different provider from the one used for the original recording.

ProviderUse it when
WhisperYou want local transcription, broader language coverage, and a manual language choice.
ParakeetYou use the current local Windows provider. Meetily runs it on CPU.
OpenAI-CompatibleYou want to send audio to a configured server that supports the OpenAI transcription API.
Groq or OpenAIYou want to use the selected provider's transcription service.

For Parakeet, Meetily does not offer a manual language selector. Parakeet v3 automatically selects a supported language; the optional v2 model is English-only. Other providers may offer an explicit language choice or auto-detection.

What happens to the meeting

Meetily reuses the meeting's saved audio, transcribes it with your selected settings, and saves the resulting transcript to the same meeting. It does not create a duplicate meeting.

After the replacement is saved, review the Transcript tab. Existing summaries are not automatically regenerated; generate or regenerate a summary when you are ready to use the new transcript.
